ServiceNow Platform Health Check Framework

Use this outline when leaders need a grounded view of governance, backlog, reporting, adoption, data readiness, and delivery risk.

What this artifact helps clarify

Decisions this outline supports

  • Platform friction by area
  • Governance, reporting, data, and delivery risks
  • The first 30/60/90-day priorities

Diagnostic sequence

Move from application truth to functional proof without prechecking readiness.

Each criterion remains incomplete until reviewable evidence exists and an accountable owner records the disposition.

Establish the application and workflow baseline.

Record the relevant application, release, owner, intended use, current configuration boundary, observed symptom, and unknowns. Documentation describes mechanisms; it does not prove this environment.

Trace dependencies before assigning a cause.

Identify systems of record, integrations, identities, roles, entitlements, schedules, and handoffs. If alignment resolves the symptom, record the resolution and continue to functional proof.

Validate data and ownership foundations.

Inspect required attributes, definitions, sources, ownership, reconciliation, and quality controls. Escalation belongs only after dependencies and data foundations are validated and the symptom still persists.

Test the end-to-end behavior that matters.

Use a bounded scenario with named roles, expected handoffs, exception behavior, acceptance criteria, and observed evidence. Do not infer production readiness from a partial demonstration.

Record the evidence state and next owner.

Classify each criterion as supported, partial, unresolved, or not applicable; then record the accountable action, evidence needed, and review point. No state becomes ready by default.

Diagnostic rule: inventory → dependency alignment → data foundation → functional proof → accountable disposition; incomplete evidence remains incomplete.

Use the diagnostic to connect observed platform friction to evidence, ownership, priority, and a practical next action.
